Olympus OM10 Shots

Here are some shots recently processed from expired film shot with my Olympus OM10 SLR. Some are good, some are weird and some you might think are awful. Whatever the case may be, I had a blast taking them.

The Beautiful Colors of Fall

Not much to say here but that It's a pleasure for me to share with you my favorite season when it comes to colors. Mother nature spreads an awesome palette of gorgeous colors for us every year and what better way to celebrate that than taking a few snapshots.

I've included some TTV shots as this rig permits me to take a straight up angle without breaking my neck. I find the results are interesting and I hope you do as well.

Thanks for watching.

Wolverine Day 14

Late one more time, then again it's still Saturday somewhere.

My Yashica Electro 35 GSN

One thing I love is old cameras. More specifically those that can still be used. I don't enjoy dumping money on old things that just sit there and look pretty.

A recent trip to the Thrift Store hooked me up with this beauty. A Yashica Electro 35 GSN vintage mid 70's. The price was right, $5 as is. At that price I was willing to take a chance and at worst it could be a parts camera for a future hacking project.

The camera operates on Aperture priority with the shutter speed automatically selected by the camera. One problem, the battery that operates it is no longer made. I bypassed that problem with 4 1.5V pill cells, some tape and a few washers.

It needs a bit more cleaning and the light seal is totally shot. I'll be using some black tape to seal the light box to drop a film in it to test it out. If I'm happy with the results, from what I've been reading I should, I'll take the time to seal it properly.

These cameras are also known to suffer from the "Pod of Death" which is a small rubber washer that tends to rot away. Mine seems to be fine. I'll post the test pictures when I have them.

Thanks for watching.

Making old pictures look good.

There are many ways to make old pictures look good and one of them is the Orton technique. It is very simple to do with either Photoshop Elements or GIMP.

The example here is using a 27 year old shot that I took the time to sharpen and boost the saturation a bit before I started.

To see how I do it, just go to my Photoshop/GIMP how to blog here. It is explained in a step by step fashion.

1969 MGB GT on the street

Here's a good reason why you should always carry your camera with you, you never know what you'll run into.

This cool vintage MGB was just parked on the street on my way to work. The owner was very happy to let me shoot his car and he was very proud of it.

The first shot is untouched while the other 2 were "pimped out" with the help of GIMP, the free image editing software. Some say that real pictures are untouched. I say do what you like, that's all that matters.

Until next time have fun and keep on taking pictures.

Wolverine Day 4

Wolverine got into the fridge today and took it out on a can of Heineken. It looks pretty dry so I think he drank it!

Occupy Montreal, a photo report.

I went down to Victoria Square today to see what this was all about and also bring some needed goods like winter coats and some sleeping bags.

Queen Victoria with a Guy Fawkes mask, it's kind of poetic.

Young and old are asking for a better today and tomorrow. I can't hold that against anybody and I admire them for braving the elements like this in the Fall.

The place chosen for this is located in front of the Montreal Stock Exchange sandwiched between tall buildings. The wind is pretty harsh and cold.

However everyone is in good spirits and I wish them all the best. I will be visiting again soon.

I had no tripod with me so I used what I could find, lamp posts, cement blocks and whatever else I could find to support the camera.

Until next time have fun and keep taking pictures.

Wolverine Day 2

He's a bit angry that he couldn't steal this ride.

Wolverine tried to get away from us today by jumping on our scooter. No dice, he's too short!

Thanks for watching, keep taking pictures.

Project 365: Wolverine Day 1

Wolverine showing his stuff wondering if he's happy or not to be the subject of this new experiment.

A 365 project roughly consist of taking one picture a day for an entire year on a given subject. I had the intention of doing this for a while since the commitment forces you to go and shoot everyday. Practice makes perfect wouldn't you know it.

The only thing missing was a subject and I found mine yesterday. I literally found it on the ground of an hotel parking lot. I give you Wolverine.

Wolverine looks kinda funny and as most of you know has one very short fuse and character to match. So starting today I will post a picture of Wolverine once a day for the next year on top of my other posts.

So join me and keep posted on his many adventures to come.

Thanks for watching and keep taking pictures.

TTV Rig Version 2.0

Last time I made a post on TTV photo or Through The Viewfinder, I showed you my rig. Basically it was a Kodak Duaflex 4 with a cardboard box duct taped to it in a half ass fashion.

Light leaks on the viewfinder and the general ugliness of it all motivated a new set up, hence version 2.0. It is basically the same thing but I took the time to do a nicer job.

The entire camera is boxed in a black foam core all taped up with flat black hockey tape. I left the bottom of the camera open so I can use the tripod attachment for low light shots. I also made a hole that fits my Nikon's lens perfectly on top to avoid any light glare on the viewfinder.

Until next time have fun and keep taking pictures.

I had business in Downtown Montreal today so I took the time to take some street shots during my breaks.

Nothing special, just some street photography.
